We have had MANY reports with our software. The developers I know had MANY
reports as well. We send quite similar standard message as John to our
customers. It is very easy to lose your temper if you have to answer this
question so many times and 3Com just keeps ignoring the problem.
If you do some searching on the comp.sys.palmtops.pilot newsgroup you can
find reports from people having just plain built-in datebook app. In my
message to this forum sent 2 weeks ago I have suggested to search for these
threads for instance:
* Palm V alarm does not work
* Datebook alarm doesn't go off when Palm V is turned off
* How to get an alarm sound with Palm V switched of?
* Confusion about alarm on Palm V???
* Palm V event alarm doesn't sound -- Palm IIIx too?
* Palm Pilot V and Alarm
I am sure the developers have a lot of e-mails they could share if there is
any real interest from 3Com. Below is a copy of mail I received just a few

I received a copy of your e-mail concerning problems with the Alarm function
waking up the Palm devices and I thought I would share my experiences with
you.
My copy of Datebk3 has developed a strange problem. The alarms set for
appointments do not go off unless I manually turn on the Palm IIIx. I have
made sure the Alarm Preferences are set to have Datebk3 handle alarms but
this does not seem to change anything. I have reset the Palm IIIx and it
will work fine for a while and then it won't work again. I have not been
able to determine what causes the problem. I know it is not a problem with
the hardware buttons silencing the alarm. I have set the alarm and remind
tones to be different tones. Sometimes on power up I get the alarm tone and
then immediately I get the remind tone! I have had an alarm set for the
morning on a Sunday go off at power up at 4:30pm. This is a time period
greater than that set to remind me in the Datebk3 settings. The alarm just
doesn't go off until I actually power the machine up!
I don't know if this information helps or not but the problem does not seem
to be isolated to the Palm V.
