You need a retail install CD, not one that is model specific. A few will 
install on all Macs, but most won't. I have an 8.5 install CD that has 
"Power Macintosh G3" on it but installs fine on my 9600 and 7500.

If you find an OS 9 CD you can download the free 9.1 upgrade from 
Apple's site.
