1) The ethernet connection on the cable modem is faster than the USB connection (100 Mbps vs 12 Mbps). But, both are faster than the maximum bandwidth of your cable modem service, which is likely 1.5 Mbps or less. Even the premium cable services are only 3 Mbps.
None of the broadband equipment (DSL or cable) I've seen has a 100BaseT connection. What would be the point.
