As for the point, I'd assume it's 2-fold. First, cable internet that's faster than 10 Mbps is offered in some markets and is supposed to spreading. Second, there are switches on the market that don't do well with mixed connection rates. Just because your internet connection isn't over 1.5 Mbps, that doesn't mean you want your file sharing rate limited to 10 Mbps.


If you have a switch that doesn't work well with mixed connection rates you have a bad switch plain and simple.
