I just wanted to ask whether anyone has been or heard of anyone who has been successful at installing OS X on the Powermac 5500. I'm just curious at the thought of installing OS X on a machine unsupported by Xpostfacto. I just wanted to know before i went to the trouble of putting in a bigger hard drive.

Unfortunately, you can't. I had a 5400, same thing pretty much, also listed as 'unsupported', but I tried to get jaguar working on it anyways. I believe there are issues with the CD-ROM drive and getting it to boot. As far as I know, the 5400 and 5500 aren't even supported for Linux or any BSD variants. Generally, if none of the 'free' unixes run on a Mac, it won't be possible to get OS X to run on it. Kind of stinks, because it would be a good 'almost G3 all-in-one' computer, especially with an upgrade card. The limited RAM, unaccelerated video, and single PCI slot would always be a factor though, even if you were able to get OS X working. If you want to try anyways, good luck! It's always fun to see what you can get working on machines that weren't designed for it! :)
