It is a Yamaha CRW8824S. Works well, though it is a bit old and can't burn at fast speeds (works best at 4x or so). If the one in the LaCie case is good, you could put it into the 8500. The only catch, is that you might want to keep both the CD-ROM and the CD-RW, as the CD-RW may not be a bootable device. The Yamaha is not.
