It appears that the only recourse we have with the Toshiba Satellite is
the PCMCIA card that plugs into the side of the laptop. I found this
site that shows one. I'm sure that there are other suppliers as well.

upgrading the USB's in my Toshiba laptop to USB2....is it simply a
matter of a driver or some other piece of software or is it much more
involved, bearing in mind it's a laptop we are talking about. Whilst
working on the innards of a desktop machine holds no fears for me, a
laptop is another story.
