I have a Gateway 505 GR - Windows XP 3 GHZ, 1 gig of RAM, 200 Gig Hard drive. I updated the software from Roxio for Roxio Media Center 7.0 to 7.1, and now my DVD player is not recognized. I've tried to uninstall it and reboot the computer, still doesn't play or record DVD's. The CD player works- plays and records, but the DVD doesn't work. I know I downloaded the right software from Roxio. I think it changed the drivers. I tried to update the drivers and it tells me that the drivers I'm trying to update to are Lite-On DVDRW SHOW 832S - VTS3 which IS what I have! I tried to do a system restore to an earlier time, and nothing works. It won't let me do a system restore. I tried to reformat the hard drive with the restore DVD, but that won't work because the DVD player won't work. Is there anything else I can do, other than buying a new DVD player? Roxio is closed for a few days because of the weekend and the holiday. I called Gateway and got a girl on the phone who said she'd send me the CDs instead of the DVD but we got disconnected. I called back, got some guy who told me it doesn't come on CD, and tried to charge me for telling me this information, so I hung up on him .
