Have you tried opening "My Computer" and seeing if the DVD drive is listed there, and if so, tried to open it from there?
Roxio's website, message boards, and software updates from within the program, are always screwed up. I haven't been able to update mine in weeks and I had to get the updates manually. There's no telling what you may have ended up with. You could have installed corrupted or the wrong updates. You never said if the drive is listed in the Device Manager. I'd uninstall ALL Roxio software, reboot, uninstall the drive in the Device Manager, then reboot and see what happens. Your BIOS settings should not be an issue since they are not going to change by themselves. -Clint God Bless Clint Hamilton, Owner http://OrpheusComputing.com http://ComputersCustomBuilt.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lisa Schnepf" In my Gateway user guide, under troubleshooting DVD Drives it says: Enter the BIOS Setup Utility and make sure that IDE controllers are enabled. I went into the BIOS and under ATA/IDE configuration it I says [enhanced] When you click on [enhanced] the only other options are [legacy] and [disabled] nothing says [enabled]. On the right hand side it says " Disabled. All IDE resources disabled". Is it supposed to be enabled or is this correct?? Thanks. Lisa -----Original Message----- Hugh Vandervoort Open Device Manager, DVD CD ROMs and the property sheet of this DVD player. Under the Driver Tab, select "Roll Back Driver". If that doesn't work, uninstall Roxio, which is known to have problems of this nature, even though it gets good reviews. Nero has never failed me on any of the several machines I've installed it. This also shows the limitation of restore CDs and DVDs. A Win XP install disk would handle this problem easily.
