In my Gateway user guide, under troubleshooting DVD Drives it says: Enter the BIOS Setup Utility and make sure that IDE controllers are enabled.
I went into the BIOS and under ATA/IDE configuration it I says [enhanced] When you click on [enhanced] the only other options are [legacy] and [disabled] nothing says [enabled]. On the right hand side it says " Disabled. All IDE resources disabled". Is it supposed to be enabled or is this correct?? Thanks. Under the Driver Tab, select "Roll Back Driver". If that doesn't work, uninstall Roxio, which is known to have problems of this nature, even though it gets good reviews. Nero has never failed me on any of the several machines I've installed it. This also shows the limitation of restore CDs and DVDs. A Win XP install disk would handle this problem easily.
