From what I have seen with the below-mentioned demo, the efoview system uses an external web server to create an updated form. This can not really be called "local saving".

Most important, this approach does NOT WORK when there is no access to the internet ... which means that Reader (before 6) must be running under a web browser.

Actually, this approach has been known for a long time, and there are various vendors offering such solutions. Actually, there are even some forms design tools which provide all the needed server-side code for this kind of submitting.

As opposed to that, the approach with the Document Server for Reader Extensions allows a form with according extended rights to do a real local save... without external help.

The Adobe Document Server for Reader Extensions is one of the possible options, however, its cost make it not as practical.
