Spaceships sure do make grocery shopping a whole lot more fun though.

If you don't mind my asking Jim, what do you guys use for transforming your PDFs into HTML forms?

Thanks Max for the comments, which probably spits on all the venders that provide similar service like us.

It is true that the Acrobat Document Server provides superior features, however, it is also true that the cost could dry-out the budgets of many medium to small institutions.

For users that can download the forms from a site, is it a major concern that they have to stay connected while editing the form? Maybe, but not likely. It is a major concern that the Acrobat Document Server has a cost magnitude of $10,000, comparing to our solution that has a cost magnitude of $100? Maybe not for big companies, but very likely for the rest. For most of the people, they do not need a space ship to pick up their groceries.

I hope this is a more balanced discussion.

Sorry to spit in your soups...

From what I have seen with the below-mentioned demo, the efoview system uses an external web server to create an updated form. This can not really be called "local saving".

Most important, this approach does NOT WORK when there is no access to the internet ... which means that Reader (before 6) must be running under a web browser.

Actually, this approach has been known for a long time, and there are various vendors offering such solutions. Actually, there are even some forms design tools which provide all the needed server-side code for this kind of submitting.

As opposed to that, the approach with the Document Server for Reader Extensions allows a form with according extended rights to do a real local save... without external help.

Hope, this can help.

The Adobe Document Server for Reader Extensions is one of the possible options, however, its cost make it not as practical.

At EFOVIEW, we provide a more economic approach for either occasional form users, or the form providers. Please check the following demo that allows anyone with Acrobat Reader to fill and save the form with filled-in data.
