okay, I think I got it.........

On EV adj's, (+ ) means MORE LIGHT.
Or (in effect) opening the shutter more by increasing the f-stop (fraction)
number. (As in 2.8 to 2.0...)

And (-) means LESS LIGHT.
Or (in effect) closing the shutter more by decreasing the f-stop (fraction)
number. (As in 2.8 to 3.5...)

Right?
