I agree.  The one with a single boat gives the impression that the 
photographer is all alone in a beautiful wilderness.  The other looks 
like it was taken at a summer camp somewhere.

They are both very nice shots, however.

Better composition: i like the single boat in the left corner.  I also 
think the single boat gives a more lonely/solitary feel to the picture 
which creates a cool mood overall.
