That's what's involved in my own personal strategy.  The trunk of my white
car takes a lot longer to heat up in the summer sun than does the trunk of
my wife's navy blue car (or the interior of either car).  While I don't
routinely keep photo gear in the trunk (other than a monopod and a tripod),
I don't worry so much about using my "reflective trunk" for carrying or
storing photo gear in, as long as it's not for too long a period or on the
most "summery" of days.
