Fascinating indeed. Although I have a fair deal of Soviet background instilled in me, this still strikes me as a rather stupid thing to do.

Suppose that in 20 years from now, it will be proven that smoking is extremely healthy for some reason. Say, those who smoke are better endowed to survive the atomics...

Does it mean that all such images will be re-planted with proper smoking devices???

I hate revisionist history, even if old practices are now officially frowned
upon.  If the picture was no good in its original form then they shouldn't
have used it at all.
