Over the last 15 or so years I have had periods of major investment in new (or
new-to-me used) lenses. Always I have sold older gear to help finance the
purchase of the newer must-have items. Camera bodies as well as lenses. Looking
back, some of the ones I regret parting with include all of my father's gear.
There were plain-vanilla M-series lenses, a 50/2.0, a zoom or two, a couple of
ME bodies. Nothing that I would use now, but in the grand scheme of things the
money I made from the sales doesn't compensate for the loss of the sentimental
treasure.

In my own purchase/sell dealings, I fondly remember the K 85/1.8 which I sold
to finance the FA*85/1.4 , and I have equally fond memories of the FA*85/1.4
and FA*24mm which I sold to help finance the FA Limited 77 and 31 and 43. The
FA* 80-200 was stellar, but the DA* lenses I bought with the proceeds from that
sale are smaller, lighter, and equally good. These and similar exchanges I
would do again today. I do miss the FA 20-35, that was a sweet lens and, even
though it would be totally redundant with the DA* 16-50 and a couple of primes
in that same range, I wish I had held onto it. A nice compact lens that gave
very nice results.

Ones that I wouldn't let go? The 77 Limited. The FA*200/4 Macro. The holy
trinity of DA* zoom lenses: 16-50, 50-135, and 60-250.
