I seriousely doubt Pentax will ever regain their position in 35mm format. It 
would be an extremely risky effort if they ever tried to fight Nikon or 
Canon, or even Minolta head on. Their best hope would be to make a stand 
imho. Besides, I don't think Pentax lenses are particularly better than 
other major players. For instances, just check out what Minolta has offered. 
They have been constantly upgrading their lenses and many with 9 aperture 
blades which Pentax don't seem to care at all. Of course, however, SMC is 
still very flare resistance.

The 645E was not that successful, and I don't see how it will hurt the 
P645NII at all.
