Don't worry, I have complained plenty in the past... > Why should Altium, MS, or anyone else give free support for their > products if you and others don't expect them to? I expect a fair deal.... nothing more, nothing less, but you couldn't ask much more from them over the last year odd. > Some of us are tired of software vendors disavowing responsibility > for supporting their products. Yep, your not alone. > What do we do to display our discontent? We complain and we > don't upgrade, that's what. We certainly don't pay to report bugs. We all choose the method that suits us best, I guess. Most my input is for improvements, not so many bugs. > I agree that at a certain point a vendor has to stop supporting old > stuff. > But the product should work as advertised, and support should not be > dropped until it does so. Of course, in Altium's case they have made a habit of free upgrades till they get it right (or close too). > Once the advertised functionality works, the old product should be supported > by a web-based knowledge base and archived service packs, in perpetuity. Maybe, I think part of there problem is, many users don't own the product yet still use the support. I think that's why they are doing things this way. > Web-based support of old products has very low marginal cost to the vendor - all they have to do is have a website (which they already have) with the > files available for download. At the end of the day, they would like you to move to the current product. > BTW, Darren, if you want to save some money on office software, try > OpenOffice. It's free. And reporting bugs in OpenOffice is > free, too ;-) Yeah, will not be paying for it either way, looks like the next windows version will include office. My accounting software is my main gripe atm, $400 odd a year so they can sell you the current tax tables, they have got to be kidding...
