Right. They were not selected. It is Select All that is reliable, for
"outside" can have some problems. Remember, in this thread, by
another, it was recommended to Select All, then Deselect *Inside*.

The zoom out part wasn't necessary. Select All would still Select
All. However, you might not have been able to see the selection
extents, what you call the "selection window."

Yes. The selection window, if you noticed, probably included your
pcb. Something was selected there as well as the primitives you were
trying to find. This is why Select All Outside did not work. At least
this is a reasonable theory... If those primitives were part of a
footprint, a footprint is only Outside a space if all the primitives
are outside that space. One exception, it is neither Inside or
Outside (i.e., Select Outside won't select it and Select Inside, I
think, will also not select it -- I have a memory of there being some
option here but I'm not going to check right now.)

So if you Select All, then Deselect Inside, you will have only the
problem objects selected. Including any portions of them which are
inside your PCB area. You do not want, necessarily, to delete them
until you know what they are. And if you do delete them, make sure
you synchronize with your schematic again. If you delete a component,
Protel will not warn you, and you can think your board is complete.
(*Always* resynchronize before considering a design complete. Has
AD2006 automated this?)

The workspace is 100 inches. The view window is irrelevant, though it
might mean that some objects are invisible (and they can be invisible
for other reasons as well). In addition, objects can exist outside
the workspace, both in negative space and positive space. Sometimes
people think this is a bug, but it is actually a feature, albeit one
missing certain facilities to make it easy to detect and deal with such things.
