Hi Rob,

The sequence of Protel products is Autotrax > Tango > Protel 2.x >
Protel 3.x > Protel98 > Protel99 > Protel99SE > DXP > DXP2004 >
Altium Designer 6.x. The PCB file versions are Protel 2 (Version
2.x), Protel 3-Protel98(Version 3), Protel99-99SE(Version 4),
DXP-Altium Desiger 6.2(Version 5), Altium Designer 6.3-6.x(Version 6).

The latest version of Altium Designer can save files in earlier
formats by stripping out features that were added after the target
format. However, there is a bug that hasn't yet been fixed. DXP
introduced a primitive called a "region" - it is a type of
polygon. The file converter in Altium Designer does not properly
strip out that primitive. The result is that files using that
primitive will cause a crash in earlier versions when the
down-converted file is loaded. The workaround is to manually strip
out "regions" before saving in an earlier format.

Regards - Harry
