I wouldn't be overly worried about supporting old versions of perl.  If
someone *needs* a recent version of PDL then they should be able to
install a recent version of perl.  I know it's not always that simple,
but it's not the job of PDL to work around corporate IT policies.

Similarly, if a vendor is providing support for versions of perl older
than versions supported by p5p, and they are being paid for that
support, then surely getting recent versions of PDL to function with
ancient versions of perl is their problem.

That being said, I see no reason to drop support for older versions of
perl unless it helps PDL development.  This is the policy I follow
with Devel::Cover which still supports 5.6.1 for the most part.
