Perhaps a sister list could be setup to receive these messages. This would prevent the annoyance while still providing a central location for those interested to view responses. A bit of mail server wizardry (if you'd even call it that) can ensure that messages are delivered to all those participating in the thread. Still, it might be worth a try. The system could send only the top ten search results. The problem is that the results should be mailed to the list so that others could tell whether they satisfy the question, but I'm afraid that would become annoying.
