Not long ago, Andy Bradford proclaimed... > Has any major political party ever really stuck to its guns? During the Reagan administration there was at least SOME rollback. I seem to remember Reagan slashing a ridiculous number of pages from the tax code. The GOP congress during Clinton's administration rolled back a lot of welfare programs they felt were wasteful spending. But, during the last 10 years or so, I'd have to agree with you: government just keeps getting bigger. Representatives from both parties are elected on platforms that either promise smaller government or more valuable government and they both just get in bed with special interests and pass funding on sausage museums, bridges to nowhere, and special investigations on whether or not oil companies are involved in price gouging. Congress (and the president) has settled on inaction with regard to energy policy, immigration policy, and, surprisingly, national security policy. Part of the reason is that the special interest lobbies have become so powerful in their influence. But that shouldn't matter if we elect people who don't care about getting re-elected or getting favors, only getting the job done right. Whew. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] is Doran L.
