Okay good. I'm leaning towards the Dream Machine. It has a built-in wireless AP, so I'll stick that in the main shop I think, and then use a POE switch to power APs in some shipping containers attached to the building. > I like their stuff because it transparently moves clients around to > different APs when I am roaming around, or if too many devices try to > use a single AP. Awesome. That's what I want to hear. With my shipping containers, there's enough signal leakage that if I put a single AP to cover two stacked containers, hopefully I'll have enough overlap from neighboring stacks to get enough coverage for my purpose (which is solely to run a couple of wirelessly-connected thermostats). Transparent hand-off should help me get the coverage I need without having too many APs and thus too much noise. > My only complaint, is that I haven’t been terribly impressed with its > ability to filter unwanted sites. The only filtering that works these days is purely DNS filtering, which can be done with your own DNS server, or with a service like OpenDNS. Definitely something I'll explore as if this works out well, I'll be deploying a similar network for my house and yard. thanks again, Michael /* PLUG: http://plug.org, #utah on irc.freenode.net Unsubscribe: http://plug.org/mailman/options/plug Don't fear the penguin. */
