Your reasoning is a tad conflicted, CW. You rightly suggest that the "Motion to Sever" resulted in "spillover" - but you see no conflict with the flood of "Juice hatred." I certainly understand judicial expediency, but this trial was out in the open and waged against a despised defendant. It's one thing to send Rufus Q. Brown up the river for life, but sending him up for OJ, well, that's taking expediency just bit too far.
Another precedent I'll be looking for is the "midnight reading of the verdict." Apparently the judge in this case couldn't wait for a normal hour given the "novel" significance of the date. Not a huge point, granted, but the cherry on a pattern. And we haven't even got into sustaining the piling-on-of-charges (e.g. verdicts). The final tip-off is the abnormal delay in sentencing, the time the judge needs to review her law books. For example, can she give Simpson 15-to-life, while sentencing Mr. Spillover to 18 months? Because Mr. Spillover represents the strongest appeal. Should she throw down a bet on the likelihood Mr. Spillover can't afford it? Or is Alan Dershowitz likely to come out of the woodwork? And if she gives 18 months to Mr. Spillover, why not simply declare that she overruled California and set Spillover free (Mandatory sentencing guidelines notwithstanding). Meanwhile, if Simpson had robbed a bank, took hostages, at gunpoint, he'd be facing the same sentence. On the other hand, if he had circumstantially robbed the same bank aided by the Las Vegas police with a score to settle, a whole 'nother can of precedents. Bottom line: I believe that the lure of this continuing soap opera has sucked in yet another Marsha Clarke into a losing position. She may even get to hold onto him for a few years, but then it's back to the golf course for OJ. On Oct 4, 3:20 pm, Cold Water <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > The verdict will stand.
