Yes- marriage is in shambles! Even the ones I know that have lasted bask in bitter humor as a fork plunges into a salad and a sinister aside slides out of a painted mouth. I suppose we should be grateful if we escape marriage with our lives and not moan and groan. One survives a bad marriage like a wounded soldier. Love is a battlefield. I used to think my mother was the only one who had totally unprepared me for the reality of wedlock until it turns out other women felt the same from my generation. Now, perhaps, women are over-prepared. Who knows? The best we hope for is that our children avoid our misfortunes and so far so good.
