Step Right Up! and The Okra All-Stars.
The Two Dollar Pistols' Step Right Up! was in my Top 10 of 98, FWIW. I
kinda see Don's point of view on them, but to me it just sounded like high
energy honkytonk and I thought the ensemble play was fine. The Okra
All-Stars could be called a classic of early alt.county. Ya know, both of
these records have an edge that is missing for a lot of country (that's why
it's Alt.) that may explain their appeal to people who favor rock over the
slicker stuff.
