Fermi uses the Ludlum 43-10 alpha counter with Ludlum 2000 scaler.
We have a nominal limit of 1,000,000 dpm; however we have counted several
smears in the 3,000,000 dpm range.
We have not have not had issues of monitor contamination; however the counter
is in a hood.

Subject: Powernet: Alpha Counting

Duke Energy request to following information:

What do you use to count smears for alpha/ beta activity? Canberra iSolo,
Ludlum 3030P, other?

Do you have a limit on the activity (dpm) that can be counted using a smear
counter?

And if you have a limit on activity, what is the limit and how do you count
smears above the activity limit (beta) for alpha?
