Bill.

Browns Ferry uses a Surveyor M in the scaler mode with a 10 minute count
for smears. Much easier to decontaminate than a scaler and the jig we
had made provides the proper geometry.

We use a Ludlum 2000 with a ZnS probe for air samples and can be used
for low activity smears.

We are evaluating the iSolo and close to implementing it.

Subject: Powernet: Alpha Counting

Duke Energy request to following information:

What do you use to count smears for alpha/ beta activity? Canberra
iSolo, Ludlum 3030P, other?

Do you have a limit on the activity (dpm) that can be counted using a
smear counter?

And if you have a limit on activity, what is the limit and how do you
count smears above the activity limit (beta) for alpha?
