THE WEEKEND NEWSLETTER
AMERICA'S NEWSCHANNEL MSNBC
Saturday February 8, 2003- Sunday February 9, 2003

travel is as routine as today's airline flights. Envision manned expeditions to other
planets - perhaps outside of our solar system - in search of extraterrestrial life.

the wake of the Shuttle Columbia tragedy EXPLORER meets some of the visionaries and
risk takers driving the latest developments in space exploration. Then at 10p, tune in
for Headliners & Legends: Sally Ride, for an inside look at America's first woman in
space.
And a program note about a premiere coming next Sunday, February 16 at 8pm ET

A war that the American public thinks it knows intimately is about to be revealed in a
new light, as legendary photojournalist Tim Page returns to Vietnam. Introducing

MSNBC INVESTIGATES: HONOR, COUNTRY, MURDER
This is a story about two kids who seemed to have it all-- outstanding academic
records, scholarships to the best military schools, a plan to marry after graduation.
Instead they're looking at a minimum of 80 years combined for luring a 16 year old
romantic rival to her death. Diane Zamora and David Graham-- they each took the blame
for the crime and then turned on each other. You'll hear both their confessions in
this one-hour documentary.
Hosted by John Seigenthaler.

9PM ET
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: MERCY FOR A MURDERER?
How do you punish a child who has committed a very adult crime? Should he pay with
his life? In this program we follow the death row appeal of Sean Sellers, who was 16
when he was found guilty of killing his mother and stepfather as they slept. From his
conviction, to the clemency where his family argues he should die-- cameras capture it
all.
Hosted by John Seigenthaler.

10PM ET
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: A KILLER SPEAKS
Evan Ramsey, a seemingly ordinary teenager, talks candidly about what drove him to
carry out a deadly shooting in his high school. He says his emotional pain
overwhelmed him so much, he took a gun to school in his small town of Bethel, Alaska
and opened fire. By day's end, two people -- the school principal and a student --
lay dead. For the first time -- from jail -- you'll find out what drove Evan to kill.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORER: AMERICA'S BIG CAT CRISIS
Is America is in the midst of a big cat crisis? Could a 500-pound tiger be living next
door to you? It's a problem that some believe has exploded in recent years as
thousands of private individuals acquire large, exotic felines as pets, unaware of the
amount of care these animals require. EXPLORER examines both sides in this powerful
and emotionally-charged debate over private ownership of big cats, asking who, if
anyone, should possess this piece of the wild.

2AM ET
WEEKEND MAGAZINE: KIDNAPPED CLIMBER/ICE RESCUE SURVIVORS
KIDNAPPED CLIMBERS-It's a decision only a few people have ever had to make: kill or be
killed. The choice probably seems obvious to most-the drive to survive is
extraordinarily powerful. And, no one knows that better than those who climb
mountains for fun. So why, when these young rock-climbers were faced with that stark
choice -- kill or be killed -- did they have such a hard time coming up with an
answer?
ICE RESCUE SURVIVORS-Have you ever looked across a frozen pond and thought about
gliding out there? It might seem like fun-- unless you suddenly find yourself treading
on thin ice. For the kids you're about to meet, the idea of an icy adventure quickly
became a freezing fight for life. Could any rescue crew get all of them out of
danger? Len Cannon reports.

3AM ET
HEADLINERS & LEGENDS: SUSAN SMITH
At one time she was the most hated person in America. Susan Smith drowned her
children, then convinced millions that they had been kidnapped. Now in prison, Smith
left behind a tortured husband, a grieving town and a puzzled, angry nation.

4AM ET
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL
Aptly named, this program is about a mother's ultimate betrayal of her child.

5AM ET
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: IS MY MOTHER A MONSTER?
It's a frightening thought for any parent... having a child become seriously ill.
Imagine then, that the parent (usually the mother) is actually to blame for the
child's mysterious sickness, in hopes of gaining attention for herself. You may have
heard about "Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy." In this program we show you the hidden
camera evidence that leads the investigation into several children's sicknesses right
to the parent.
