[PRODIG] Dead microdrives

A second 1GB microdrive died on me yesterday, only days after a 
relatively new one collapsed (they make a very strange noise when put 
in my 1Ds and can't be formatted).  Neither had gone farther than my 
desk for a while, and as far as I know no-one has been dropping them.

I recently got a USB 2.0 card reader which has problems mounting on the 
desktop (OSX 10.3).  Could it be possible that the card reader is 
somehow killing them?

They may be cheap these days (�95+VAT from valuemedia.co.uk), but I'd 
rather not lose any more.
