My first Micro drive died but so did two flash cards.
The flash cards were 128mb so ignored , the 1 GB microdrive exchanged and another
purchased.
for 3 years now they have worked ok BUT I do not trust any recording device so I always
have film camera as a back up ( how the world changes ) sometimes shooting both and
junking the film after the files are viewed !
The advantage of a Microdrive as I see it is that as long as you can play back on
camera
and see the images you know they are there. If the drive dies the disc can be
physically
removed and the data retrieved,if you can afford it!

Now there is a new insurance angle :-))

Hard drives are clearly made to certain standards, just look at the warranty period
.Some
scusi drives are 5 year, some IDE 3 ,most 1 year.
Ive had drives from Maxtor x6, IBM x2 ,Seagate X2, Western Digital X3 fail in
various
computers so its clear that they are all likely to let you down at the most
unpredictable
moment.
Even solid state stuff goes wrong, how many of you have had computer crashes traced to
bad
RAM modules,I have for one.
To be honest Id rather go back to film, mixing my own Chemistry and taking a chance with
the electricity supply in terms of reliability than trust all to digital but hey, that's
what insurance is for !
