Could you batch them through the PS automated Web Site creator?  I know it
creates a web site (which you don't need) but you can specify constrained
image size in pixels using this automated batch function, and also quality
of jpegs.  All the large scale images are dumped in a single folder, and you
can strip out the rest of the site stuff you don't need.  iView also has a
similar feature.

There's probably a neater way of doing it, but I'm still kinda new to this
lark.  As a quick 'n' dirty solution, might help you out?
