Last year at this time I bought one of the low end Canon flatbeds for use with my PowerBook primarily for documents. It works amazingly well on color print photographic scans also. The model I got is reflective only. Look on the Apple Store at the Canon 8400F. On the US site it's offered for $149. That one appears to do slides and larger transparencies/negatives. I have no personal experience with this thing but if the quality and ease of use if similar to the one I have you won't be disappointed... especially at that price.
