We use this: UltraVNC SC (Single Click) Nothing to install on the client computer. We distribute the client part with our regular updates. The client is completely secure, when they stop the program, nothing is installed and there is no possible access by anyone. Bill's explanation below says it all.
What is interesting is that the client has the 'server' version and we connect with the 'client' version. This is backwards from the regular remote access setup, but after understanding how it works, it is perfect. You want your client to control access so they are secure. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Arnold" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, October 19, 2010 12:48 PM Subject: RE: [NF] Recommendations for client-use remote access Ted, > Other folks must have clients with remote access needs. What are you > using? How's it working? What restrictions are you running into? We're using UltraVNC SC (Single Click) http://www.uvnc.com/addons/singleclick.html With SC we compile and send a customer a customized exe (with our machine's IP address and some other 1x shot setup stuff) to run to share his/her desktop with our tech support person. The customer has no setup requirements at all for it to work. Our person starts UltraVNC viewer in listen mode first, then the customer launches the app and walla! And it's free. We've used it with XP/Vista/Win 7, all okay. It supports file transfer. When our IP's change, we have to recompile/redistribute the small app, but with cable it doesn't happen often and not a big deal to us since it can be sent as a small email attachmement or from our website. One glitch hit recently: customer has very large screen, with high resolution and Aero enabled, and the VNC connection runs VERY slow. I've looked into it and see that we might be able to speed it up by disabling Aero or (harder) changing screen resolution. This can be a problem, but I suspect it would be for any other product as well. Most of the machines we connect to run fine. It's also true that we don't need to remote connect that often, just for cases where a problem report can't be understood without it, and that's pretty rare given we have fairly good diagnostics collection in the app itself.
