Hi,

It is not actually possible to reinstall the firmware as such - what you
would have to do is to install a different language, then reinstall the
English language version. The firmware update procedure checks to
ensure you aren't updating to the same or older firmware version.

As for the disk errors, the PTR1 is very sensative to scratches or hairs
on the disk. I really think in this case a small clean of the disk
would work, I have had this a few times with books from the RNIB talking
book services, and cleaning does the trick.

Perhaps though we should considder replacing the duff prompt when this
happens (i.e, drive error, press * to shut down).

Hi Raquel and Penny,

I'm thinking a reinstallation of the firmware will get rid of these
problems as it sounds like a possible corruption of the firmware. If you
do decide to install the firmware and the PTR1 still restarts randomly,
then you can assume it is probably a hardware issue. When reinstalling
the firmware keep in mind that you will lose all settings and all
bookmarks as well as all daisy book titles already recognized by the
ptr1. Just a thought. You might want to wait for Andrew's reply before
doing anything drastic.
