"Mike Czuhajewski" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterence to the qrplist gang
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There was another eBay reference on QRP-L a day or two ago, where someone
posted the URL for a completed auction, followed shortly by a "wow!" comment
from someone else. If the mere mention of eBay is supposed to be a bad
thing, why was there no warning from the moderator? I am quite sure that
this is not a double standard, since if I ask Jim about it he would be glad
to explain the apparent conflict.

PS--this was a roll of solder, about a pound, I think, that sold for over
five hundred dollars! But this wasn't just ANY old solder, it was Western
Electric house brand (ooooooh, ahhhhhhh), never available to the public, and
not just any old WE solder at that. It came from a specific foundry, which
produced WE solder that was superior to that from a later WE foundry in a
different state. And when it's gone, it's gone for good!!! As I seem to
recall, the item description even had a phrase to the effect of "keep your
Western Electric equipment all Western Electric." If you check the bidding
history, it looks like the old scenario of two rivals repeatedly outbidding
each other, "that sum-bitch ain't gonna win THIS time even if I have to pay
200 times what it's worth!"

PS--it's been said many times that Al Waller of qsl.net has specifically
banned mention of eBay on any and all lists, but if that was ever true it is
not true now, according to some e-mail that Jim Lowman sent me a while back.
He now leaves it up to individual list admins, and Jim chooses to have the
ban. Or apparent ban.
