Without appearing to side with the devil here, can someone tell me what the
conflict of interest is in regards to? Lots of messages flying around, and as
usual, few facts. I see Carl's Web site and it seems he tried to make a run
to be a Director, was told by the ARRL that for some reason that his being a
Director would be a "conflict of interest". What does Carl do? Does he work
in the communications industry? Does he sell amateur radio gear?
I see his sworn statement that promises that there won't be a conflict of
interest.
But I'm still trying to figure out what the conflict is...?
You need to read a bit more carefully(his links are not that clear)...and you'll
see he is a communications consultant.
If he owns AES, CQ Magazine or something like that then I'd have to agree
there is a conflict of interest.
Apparently The League feels there might be a conflict...and apparently ignored
Carl's examples of current and former Board members who worked in the
communications industry and were not told they had or might have a conflict.
What gives? Does anybody know or is this just the usual ARRL Bashing?
Sometimes one needs to really read and investigate things about The League...and
then one might reach the conclusion that criticism is not bashing, if in fact
ARRL isn't acting on the up and up.
From my perspective, what Carl detailed is a very clear picture that the ARRL
may not have the interests of Amateur Radio at heart.
