Dear Jeff, et al,

As you will see from my "Candidate Statement" I have my own consulting company.

I primarily specialize in Standards Development (mostly in IEEE 802, where I Chair a WG that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with ham radio OR ham bands.)
I outlined that in the affidavit, sworn under penalty of perjury.
I further promised, as you will see in the affidavit, that, if elected, I would not enter into a relationship with a client that would present a conflict (anything to do with ham radio or ham bands) or, by any reasonable interpretation, place me in a position to gain personally by abusing the office.

In short, there IS no conflict, and I promised to proactively avoid one in the future if elected.

The ARRL has NEVER cited ANY specific conflict ... just "potentiality" ... and I dealt with "potentiality" with the sworn affidavit, which they chose to ignore.

I am not a part of the "good old boy club" ... and with the broad language of Article 11, they seem to have the ability to apply it (unequally) as they please to exclude any candidate that THEY don't want on the ballot (for whatever reason).

This is NOT "ARRL bashing" ... I think, on the basis of the appeal and its rejection, it's a demonstrable fact.  And, as I say near the bottom of the main page on my website, this is about FAR more than just *me* - it's about fair and open ARRL elections (where the "inner circle" of the Executive Committee doesn't effectively determine the outcome of elections by excluding qualified candidates and not giving the electorate the opportunity to chose for themselves), due process on appeals, etc.

Carl - wk3c

Without appearing to side with the devil here, can someone tell me what the conflict of interest is in regards to? Lots of messages flying around, and as usual, few facts. I see Carl's Web site and it seems he tried to make a run to be a Director, was told by the ARRL that for some reason that his being a Director would be a "conflict of interest". What does Carl do? Does he work in the communications industry? Does he sell amateur radio gear?

I see his sworn statement that promises that there won't be a conflict of interest.

But I'm still trying to figure out what the conflict is...?

If he owns AES, CQ Magazine or something like that then I'd have to agree there is a conflict of interest.

What gives? Does anybody know or is this just the usual ARRL Bashing?
