Jeff Davis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterance to the qrplist gang
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When I asked here a few days ago about the "conflict" between WK3C's
running for office and the ARRL no one offered an actual explanation
beyond the suggestion that the evil empire in Newington was doing
business as usual.
As it turns out, there does exist a conflict between WK3C and the
ARRL and quite frankly, it seems pretty legitimate to me.
I knew that Carl's call sign sounded familiar but I didn't put it all
together until seeing Dan's note on QRP-L.
Seeing as how Carl is an Executive Director of No-Code International,
and the NCI Web site very clearly states:
"In the United States, the American Radio Relay League has long been
strong proponents for the continuation of manual code requirements.
Until recently, the IARU supported the continuation of manual code
requirements in the ITU Radio Regulations, but the IARU has changed
that position, though some of its member societies, at the national
level seem to still be encouraging their administrations to retain
the requirement in their national rules. No-Code International is not
anti-ARRL (or anti any other IARU society). Instead it is dedicated
to getting the members and leaders of the ARRL and other IARU
societies, as well as regulatory officials world-wide, to eliminate
Morse testing."
To me this seems to be a little like having a self-avowed atheist
upset because the Baptist church won't let him become a deacon.
In the rush to condemn the ARRL you folks have apparently sided with
No Code International. Now the real question is, did you know that
before you created the hysteria on QRP-L for the lemmings to run
without all of these details?
It seems to me that there might actually be a conspiracy here, but it
isn't from the ARRL. It seems to be with three or four of you here
who are working overtime bash the ARRL for everything that they do.
By the way, I still think Carl is a nice guy. I just happen to think
that all his hard work to eradicate the code requirement from amateur
radio licensing is misguided and will ultimately undermine the hobby.
For that reason alone I am glad that he won't be able to run for a
leadership position in the organization.
You ever read that story about a trojan horse?
