"Carl R. Stevenson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterance to the qrplist gang ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Second, since NCI is strictly not-for profit, a difference on individual views on the code test issue does NOT constitute a "conflict of interest." ("Conflict of interest" is a legal term meaning that one could manipulate things to one's personal financial gain ... Something that CLEARLY doesn't apply to me - especially in light of the sworn affidavit I submitted of my own volition UNDER PENALTY OF PERJURY.) Furthermore, if you've read the NPRM, it's abundantly obvious that "the fat lady's vocal chords are THROUGHLY tuned up". I've been VERY upfront with EVERY club and everyone at every hamfest I've visited about my association with NCI and my belief that the code test has outlived its relevance for getting a license. Even the IARU's policy is "The continuance of a Morse test requirement is not consistent with a healthy future for the Amateur Radio Service." Look at the UK ... One of the first to eliminate Morse test requirements after WRC-03 ... Has the world gone to hell in a handbasket? No! Both the RSGB and OFCOM (their equivalent of our FCC) are VERY happy with a resurgence of growth, and interest, in ham radio. > To me this seems to be a little like having a self-avowed > atheist upset because the Baptist church won't let him become > a deacon. That statement seems to be based on a belief that "Amateur Radio is ALL about Morse Code" ... Something that flies in the fact of fact in light of the multitude of diverse interests in Amateur Radio. Does that mean that CW will die? NO! I actually believe that there will be an increase in folks using CW because folks who have stayed away from ham radio because of the Morse requirement will, as they get into it, realize that a lot of choice DX is only on CW, because their friends from their ham club are into CW and encourage them, etc. - as opposed to balking at having it crammed down their throats via regulatory fiat. > In the rush to condemn the ARRL you folks have apparently > sided with No Code International. Now the real question is, > did you know that before you created the hysteria on QRP-L > for the lemmings to run without all of these details? The code test issue is a dead issue ... I've told folks that we need to "get over it" REGARDLESS of our individual views and get on with the TRULY important issue facing ham radio going into the future ... If you've got your blinders irrevocably on WRT the (dead)code issue and see the TRULY important issues, you're ignoring the things that could REALLY hurt us going forward. 73, Carl - wk3c ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Submissions: [email protected] Unsubscribe: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - unsubscribe qrplist in body Hopelessly Lost: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - help in body of message Zerobeat Web Page: http://www.zerobeat.net - sponsored by www.tlchost.net ----------------------------------------------------------------------
