Hey Jeff and the gang;

I disagree with you on two points.

1 - I am saddened that you seem to like to use name calling in your posts
here to our little group. While Thom will put up with this, and I agree
with him that we should not be censored/moderated like other groups, you
need to stop calling some of us (like me): "lemmings" and "curmudgeons"
and the like. It reflects on your ability to persuade as well as your own
character formation.

2 - Just because Carl is a director of a NCI does NOT mean he should not
be allowed to run for Director of the ARRL. And yes I will defend his
right to do so even though I am of the opposite opinion on the code issue
and think he is full of it as far as that is concerned. If the ARRL BOD
and Executive Committee want to remain viable and trusted, they NEED to
embrace whomever disagrees with them. While it is part of the human
condition for the BOD to oppose Carl, they are representative, and Carl is
not something to be feared above the BOD's ability or desire to be fair.

3 - Carl is right that the CODE issue is dead. I hate to admit it, but his
NCI outfit helped defeat an issue I am/was deeply committed to, in that I
wanted code to remain a requirement forever. I (and you) lost however.

Have you noticed that those of us who are pro-code are "crusty curmudgeons," and an criticism of the ARRL is automatically "ARRL BASHING." Also, if you are pro-ARRL, it's OK to call others names, because you have righteousness, while the other party is just a "trouble-maker."

To me, there's something wrong when there is a book out there (sold by the ARRL, among others) Called "Ham Radio for Dummies." Hey guys, I don't WANT dummies in Ham Radio. Hams used to be kinda "special." We knew something the great unwashed didn't, ie., CW. Also we could actually fix and even build radios! My inlaws used to save all their broken stereos and TVs etc for when I went on vacation out there. (That's one reason I quit going on vacation out there...). Now we are encouraging dummy ham operators. I thought that was CBERS? Guess there will be no difference, and look at all the money the ARRL will rake in from all those dummies! Meanwhile us crusty old curmudgeons will be down at the low end of the bands, still "pounding brass." Maybe have to run a KW to be heard over the PACTOR III, but so be it.
