probabbly just a broken midi file or an empty one. There are a few midi
files in the /windows/media folder that should work properly.

Hi,
Thanks for the emails regarding my problem. I will get more information
from my brother, and write back to the list. I forgot to mention that he
can play midi files using Windows Media, and I believe Winamp. He said he
opened up a midi, and that he had 0 items. When I open up a midi, I get 19
choices. I think some of my choices may have looked like instruments.
After examining the list of items when I open a file, I see that song001 in
the QWS folder has one item, while a file I have downloaded has 19 items.
These consist of vocal, back up, guitar, and other things that I can't
remember now.

It sounds to me like you're opening up a MIDI file, whereas your brother is
only launching QWS itself. If he's stuck for MIDI files, there are more
often than not a few cheesy ones lying around in c:\windows\media
- get him to open one of those up from the "Open" dialog of QWS and let me
know the results.
