Claudine, Tried the copy process again - as per below. The result is the same, after saving the app (step 9) and clicking on the databases tab in the object manager, I am now connected to the old db, not the new one.
The interesting part of all this is that when I run the application it works with the new database not the old one. If you move the app, I believe you should you move all 3 (.app; .apx; .apw). This from Rbase Help: ===== To copy/rename an application: 1 If the Object Manager is not open, choose Tools: Object Manager... 2 Click the Apps tab. 3 Select an application. 4 Click the Copy button. 5 Enter the name for the copied application. 6 Click the OK button. After copying an application, you must open and save it in the Application Designer to have the .APW file reflect the new application name. 7 In the Object Manager, select the copy of the application. 8 Click the Design button. 9 Choose File: Save. 10 Double-click the control-menu box, which is located in the upper-left corner of the Application Designer to close the application. ===== Also, if you edit the .app file outside of application express, you won't be able to keep your changes (Rbase will recreate the .apx from the .apw and bypass your changes). I have had to manually recreate apps this way before by printing the .app file and then following the logic to recreate the app in application express. Not much help I'm afraid... ~Claudine :) -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:owner-rbase-l@;sonetmail.com] On Behalf Of Myron Finegold Sent: Sunday, October 27, 2002 12:58 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Renaming a Database and Application Alastair, Thanks for even engaging the brain on a Sunday. I did as you suggested. The app file has only one connect statement and it is; connect dbname. (I do use the application express.) I'll try playing with the db later... Will keep everyone posted. Try this: Open the .app file with an editor, WordPad or NotePad will do, and search for the CONNect command. You should find it once (at least). If - in every case - it contains only the db name, ie: "CONNect dbName" then this is not your problem. However, if it contains, for example, "CONNect \dbfiles\dbName" then wherever you copy your db to is going to have no effect. If this is the problem then let the list know and someone will be able to tell you how to sort it out. It is easy enough to edit the .app file but you would then lose the ability to use Application Express which I gather you want to use. (It's Sunday afternoon and my thinking cap is hung up for the weekend!!) Close WordPad or NotePad or whatever you use _without_ saving the file! Regards, Alastair. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Myron Finegold" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, October 27, 2002 1:34 PM Subject: RE: Renaming a Database and Application > David, > I did setup a new folder, then used the reload command to move the db > into the folder created, then I moved the app in the new folder - by > itself - the app runs, but you can't 'design' it.
