I think we're talking at cross purposes, Ron. I'll try again, using your 
crash as an example. Road rash is a vastly different thing than brain 
injury. Your momentum was dissipated by the relatively slow deceleration of 
the skid on the road, not by the helmet or the gloves. My point is this: 
had you instead stopped very rapidly (as in hitting a car or tree), the 
helmet would not have prevented the coup countrecoup of your brain slamming 
back and forth inside your skull due to rapid deceleration. It can't. You 
are spot on that helmets are good at preventing cuts and abrasions. Thus, 
the conversation about brain injury and helmets and the emotional "do you 
love your brain?" attempt at manipulating people into wearing a helmet as 
if it will protect against the primary cause of brain injury in a bike 
crash (coup contrecoup) is disingenuous and gives a false sense of safety.
