regarding spin classes, I have never attended but have popped my head in at a few to see what it was about, and people seemed to be quite fit, and enjoying themselves.
All my visits were to community centres in BC, Alberta, and Ontario, and none of them had loud music. Most had no music beyond one's own headphones.
