I'm roasting as I write this. Have been doing this for years.  

I use a Behmor 1600 as well. It gives you a lot of control over the process and 
is fairly tidy. I put it on the stove/ under the hood and that gets the smoke 
outside reliably. 

I roast about once every ~5 days.  1/2 pound- takes 15 min but I can eat 
breakfast, drink coffee, read about RBW while it churns away. 

Most of the independent roasters around here (Sacramento) will sell green 
beans- lots of choice.  Pachamama also does a lot of mail order- they work 
directly with growers so I feel very good about buying from them.  

Of course grinding beans just before brewing (with a burr grinder) gives you 
the greatest quality bump, of you aren't already doing that.  
I've got a good manual grinder for bike tours and business travel.
