We're doing "Breakfast at Tuskeegee" (as opposed to Tiffany's for Holly Golightly fans) at 6 AM tomorrow. (Riv Road, Bilenky custom, Seven custom for sure, will advise other bikes of interest which show up) Temps expected in the 90s, near 80% humidity (will feel like over 100F). The key is effort management. Keep HR down so that overheating and sweat-out of all fluids does not occur. This is especially important when climbing. Cooling via sweat evaporation does not happen in high humidity, and fogged glasses and wet slippery gloves become the norm if you get too boisterous on the pedals. Drinking double my usual intake is pretty normal and I add two salt packs (from burger joints) per water bottle which helps me a lot. Thin wool is excellent for these conditions, and dries quickly once the humidity falls a little later in the day.
Here's our route btw, in case anyone is interested. http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/al/cecil,-al/720127907646468160 ________________________________ From: cyclotourist <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [RBW] Re: How do you Southerners do this? Just got back from a ride @ 7:30... 81F and 72% humidity. It'll top out today at about 103F. Good stuff.
