Hi,

I have been using RH 4.2 and have recently *installed* RH 5.1 (I
wiped the hard drive before starting). After the installation, I was
running first control-panel and then linuxconf to set all the system
parameters, etc. as root. I compiled a kernel, rebooted, and did a few
other things that I don't remember.

When I ran control-panel the next day, I couldn't find the usercfg
and fstool icons. In fact, "rpm -qa" shows that the two packages are
no longer installed! From the install.log file, I can see that these
two packages were indeed installed, but they have somehow disappeared.
I know that I did not do anything with RPM at all except to upgrade
linuxconf from the updates directory of the ftp site.

This is very mysterious to me. I have manually reinstalled the two
RPMs, but I would still like to know the cause. Also, I haven't had
the time to check if any other packages are missing. Does anyone know
the cause?

Howard
